The process of making a film has many hurdles that get in the way, non more so than in the case of continuity, which if missed when editing is finished can be a huge problem. This happened many times throughout the process of our film. Thus we had to re-shoot scenes because continuity mistakes have appeared on later viewing.
Some examples of when we came across this problem where during the lift exit scene. We filmed out main character entering the lift fine, but later on as he was supposed to leaving the lift, we noticed the door was closed. This only became a real concern due to not having noticed it till close to the deadline, and knowing mistakes like continuity can cause our film to be marked down is real problem for our movie. While re-shooting the lift exit, it became apparent we had a small gap to film the scene before the lift moved to another floor, so sloppy camera work had to be removed. After 3 attempts we finally corrected the shot.
This second continuity error never actually became a problem, but I feel it could be important because it almost resembles a real problem faced by A list directors also encounter. Due to shots being re-done for many different reasons, clothes were changed. This caused problems because our actor might have worn a certain t shirt in one scene then, the next day filming may have worn a different t shirt. Having mentioned earlier this becomes a real problem when a deadline is looming. This is in reference to continuity which happens in even mainstream films which have high budgets and even pay people to stop such mistakes from happening.
